Finding Full Text

Can't find the full text of an article you need?

Use our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service to request materials.  Interlibrary Loan is a free service for our faculty, staff, and students through which materials not owned by Trexler library may be requested from other libraries.  A PDF of the full text will be delivered to your DeSales email.  Please allow enough time between request date and need by date for processing of the request - both on the part of Trexler as well as the eventual lending library.

Searching for Relevant Information

Your search results are only as good as the terms you choose to research your topic.  Listed below are some suggested search terms that can be combined in a multitude of ways to retrieve relevant information. ( Remember to use quotes around phrases when searching online to keep the words together - e.g., "electronic health records".)

Terms related to healthcare information:

EHR, electronic health records, healthcare data, medical records, 

Terms related to security:

Security, cybersecurity, confidentiality, protected information, HIPAA, 

Other related terms:

Legal consequences, violations, failure to protect, breach OR breaches, 

Relevant Subject Words

Searching for literature on HIPAA can be challenging!   One suggestion to help - identify some keywords that are commonly used in the literature on HIPAA.  Listed below are some terms you could try searching using the Health Sciences Databases recommended on the HOME page of this Help Guide. 

Remember: 

  1. to put quotes around phrases to keep the words together , e.g., "electronic health records." 
  2. Use parentheses to keep strings of synonymous keywords together, e.g., (EHR or "electronic health records"). 

Identify concepts.  Choose keywords to describe each concept.  Combine your concept keywords.
