Description of Major Research Paper

Students will develop, research, write, and present to the class, a significant paper on a homeland security topic accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. The students will choose their topics with the approval of the instructor. Papers are expected to be no less than eighteen pages, APA format, excluding references. The scoring rubric for research papers is attached at the end of the syllabus. This assignment requires research beyond the assigned textbook. Students are required to do additional research through the DeSales Trexler Library system for their papers.

APA Guidelines

The application of the APA writing style shall be practical, functional, and appropriate to each academic level, with the primary purpose being the documentation (citation) of sources. DeSales University requires that students use the APA style for certain papers and projects. Students should always carefully read and follow assignment directions and review the associated grading rubric attached at the end of this syllabus. Books:   Books are great for background information & in-depth, detailed coverage of your topic. Use our Library Catalog Search or other virtual references to find books & e-books on your topic. Search by subject, keyword, author or title. 

Scholarly Journals : Use our databases to find journal articles discussing the latest developments, research and literature reviews written by experts in the Homeland Security field. See the "Search Tips" page for helpful strategies to get the best results.  

Government Documents: Federal government departments publish a large collection of documents including official reports, policies, regulations, history, intelligence reports and statistics on homeland security related topics. See "Government Resources" page.
