All student workers will be responsible for:
Providing excellent customer service to our patrons.
Checking out items to patrons.
Checking in returned items.
Shelving returned items. With the exception of the Salesian and More Collections, and anything in the storeroom, everyone is responsible for shelving in all areas of the library.
Replenish paper in printer paper trays at closing. Replace toner cartridges as needed.
Record the library patron count for specific areas of the library at designated times throughout the day.
Shelf reading is:
Making sure all books are in the correct Library of Congress Order.
Correcting any errors.
Shelves should be neat. All books should be blocked or edged. (Spines should be aligned with the front edge of the shelf).
There should be even spacing at the end of each shelf. Shift books within that column of books to achieve even spacing.
Books should be held upright – slide book end to the left.
During slow times at the Circulation Desk, students should use their time to:
Tidy up the Circulation Desk. The many handouts and accessories (staplers, hole punches, tape dispensers, etc.) are frequently in disarray.
Walk around the library and push in chairs, pick up any books that may have been left on tables and carrels and bring to the circulation desk.
